Would you like to learn about the species that lived millions of years ago in the Atacama Desert? The Paleontological Park Sitio Los Dedos awaits you.
Located 12 km south of Caldera, this fossil site offers tours where you can learn about the extinct animals that once inhabited the area: megalodons, giant birds, cetaceans, crocodiles, and sea sloths, among others.
The park also has an interpretation center where fossil replicas, models, and audiovisual materials illustrating prehistoric life are displayed. This is an excellent family attraction, with guided tours where expert paleontologists will accompany you along the trails.

Cómo llegar
Cómo llegar por aire
You must arrive at Santiago International Airport and take a direct flight to Copiapó. From there, you can rent a vehicle, take a tour, or take a bus to Los Dedos Paleontological Park, or you can arrive at Bahía Inglesa and then head to this destination.
Cómo llegar por tierra
If you plan to drive from Santiago to Los Dedos Paleontological Park, you’ll have to drive at least 9 hours along Route 5 North to Caldera. From there, you will continue along routes C-360 and C-302 to reach the park. Since it’s a long trip, it’s essential that you take breaks along the way.
We recommend booking Sernatur-registered tours, which include transportation and expert paleontology guides who will accompany you on your adventure.
Indispensable
This park has some access restrictions to prevent damage to the fossil sites and the ecosystem. Therefore, it is important that you respect the instructions of the park staff.
Remember to prepare for the arid desert climate. It’s best to wear sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing to avoid UV exposure. Make sure you bring snacks and enough water to stay hydrated.
