Sanctuary of vicuñas and Andean vestiges

The Las Vicuñas National Reserve is an integral part of the Lauca Biosphere Reserve, protecting an ecosystem of wetlands and high Andean steppe in the commune of Putre. Its name honors its most illustrious inhabitant: the vicuña, which roams these plains alongside the suri, the vizcacha, and, occasionally, the puma.

Water shapes the landscape through the Lauca and Guallatire rivers, and bodies of water such as the Paquisa Lagoon. Thus, a privileged setting is formed for photography, contemplation of snow-capped peaks, and the discovery of archaeological vestiges. Let yourself be captivated by the silence and wild beauty of this unique corner of Chile.
