How to get there

How to get there by air

You must land at the Desierto de Atacama Airport (CPO), which has direct flights from Santiago. From there, rent a vehicle (ideally 4×4) or hire a tour. The Sea of Dunes is south of Copiapó, about 90 km away, which you can travel in about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

How to get there by land

You can access it from Copiapó (40 km, 30 minutes) via Route C-327, or from Bahía Inglesa (50 km, 45 minutes) via C-351. A 4×4 vehicle is essential to travel the dunes and interior roads. The best option to get there is through an organized tour.

The desert climate presents high solar radiation during the day and cold nights, so it is essential to stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and bring warm clothing. The summer season, from December to March, concentrates more tourists, so it is recommended to book accommodation in advance.
