Religious treasures of the highlands

The Temples of the Route of the Missions constitute the greatest artistic expression of the Andean Baroque in Chile. As you approach these adobe and stone constructions, you will notice how the Aymara worldview reinterpreted European religious architecture, creating a unique mestizo style in the world. There are more than 30 restored churches that guard the soul of the foothills and the highlands.

As you cross their thresholds, you will discover treasures such as mural frescoes, polychrome altarpieces, and imagery dressed in local clothing. Entering them will allow you to decipher a fascinating visual language, where the Catholic faith dialogues directly with elements of nature.
