The southern half of the Carretera Austral welcomes travelers with an unforgettable image: Cerro Castillo, a stone tower that protects the Ibáñez River Valley. Close to Coyhaique, this national park has become one of the most recognized trekking destinations in Patagonia.
Here you will find Las Horquetas, a world-class circuit that lasts up to four days and requires self-sufficiency. The trail guides the hiker through forests of lenga and ñirre to the Cerro Castillo Lagoon and the El Peñón Glacier, home to huemules, condors, and guanacos.

How to get there by air
Land at Balmaceda Aerodrome (BBA) in Coyhaique, from where you must travel approximately 100 km by land to the park entrance. We recommend hiring an organized tour due to the complexities of this destination.
How to get there by land
From Coyhaique, drive 100 km south along the Carretera Austral (Route 7). The trip to the entrance of Cerro Castillo National Park or the town of Villa Cerro Castillo takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. You can opt for a private vehicle, a tour, or a route bus.
Must-Know Tips
For your safety, it is mandatory to inform the park rangers about your route and duration of your visit. It is also vital that you bring a map and a GPS device, enough water, and food for the entire hike. Remember to respect nature during your visit.
