Your experience begins in Chillán, which you can easily reach from Santiago on a 1-hour flight to General Bernardo O’Higgins Airport (YAI). From there, take Route N-55 towards Nevados de Chillán, traveling about 82 kilometers in approximately 1 hour and a half by vehicle.

Stay at the Hotel Nevados de Chillán, which has direct access to the ski slopes, thermal pools, and spa. If you arrive at lunchtime, you can enjoy the hotel’s cuisine before heading out to the snow.

The Nevados de Chillán Ski Center is one of the most important in the country, with more than 35 slopes and 10 lifts. Don’t miss the Tres Marías slope, considered the longest in South America, with 13 km of uninterrupted descent.

After an intense day of skiing or snowboarding, you can dine in the hotel restaurant, which features local and international dishes, and end the day by immersing yourself in the thermal pools of the complex, famous for their therapeutic properties and their surroundings surrounded by snow.

After a hearty buffet breakfast with views of the snow-capped mountains, get ready to discover the Valle de las Trancas, located a few kilometers from the hotel. This valley is the starting point for several trails, one of the most recommended being the Laguna del Huemul Trail: a 8-kilometer round trip, of moderate difficulty, which is completed in about 3 hours and offers impressive panoramic views of the native forest and the mountain range.

Upon returning to the valley, a well-deserved gastronomic break awaits you at the La Pulpería restaurant, renowned for its typical Chilean food and cozy mountain atmosphere.

In the afternoon, you can say goodbye to your adventure at the Termas de Chillán, enjoying its outdoor thermal pools, ideal for relaxing the body and mind after two days of intense activity. Finally, you can dine at the hotel or begin your return to Chillán, from where you can take your flight or continue your trip to Santiago.

What you should know

How to get there by air

If you are coming from abroad, you must land at the Santiago Airport (SCL) and then travel 400 km to the city of Chillán, for which you can rent a private vehicle, take a train or a direct bus. Another option is to fly to Concepción Airport (CCP), and then travel just over 100 km to reach Chillán. If you do not have a vehicle for the final stretch to the mountain center, you can arrive by private transfer or shuttle bus.

How to get there by land

From Santiago, take a 1-hour flight to General Bernardo O’Higgins Airport (YAI) in Chillán. From there, you can rent a vehicle or arrange transportation to Nevados de Chillán via Route N-55 (82 km). There are also buses and transfers from the center of Chillán to Valle de las Trancas during the high season.

Climate and clothing

The climate is cold in winter, with abundant snowfall. Bring thermal clothing, a waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. In summer, temperatures are mild, ideal for trekking.

Must-Know Tips

Book your accommodation in advance, especially during the snow season. If you plan to ski, you can rent equipment directly at the ski center. Don’t forget to bring a bathing suit to enjoy the hot springs.
