Day 2

Excursion to Grey Glacier and Lake

Today we will get up early to travel to Torres del Paine National Park. The destination is the Grey sector, one of the most emblematic of the park. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the impressive view of the lake of gray waters, dotted with deep blue ice floes floating adrift.

The idea is to take the catamaran navigation on Lake Grey that sets sail at noon. This journey will take you through its windy waters until you are in front of the majestic walls of the Grey Glacier. The boat gets close enough so you can admire its cracks, hear the cracking of the ice, and take spectacular photographs of this natural giant.

Upon returning, you can complement the experience with a walk along Grey Beach, where large pieces of ice often run aground. For the more adventurous, the option of an ice hike (which must be booked in advance) offers a unique perspective. After a day immersed in a glacial landscape, you will begin the journey back to the estancia, arriving during the night.

What you should know

How to get there by air

To get to this area, you must fly to Punta Arenas Airport (PUQ). From there, you will have to continue by land to Estancia Cerro Negro, located in the direction of Puerto Natales.

How to get there by land

Estancia Cerro Negro is located 125 km north of Punta Arenas on Route 9. To carry out this itinerary, it is essential to have a rental vehicle, given the great distance to travel to the points of interest.

Climate and clothing

For navigations and proximity to the ice, it is essential to wear warm, windproof, and waterproof clothing. The climate is extremely changeable and windy, so it is not uncommon to experience all four seasons in the same day, even in summer.

Must-Know Tips

The visit to the estancia is included in regular transfers from Las Torres Patagonia only for passengers from Punta Arenas. The excursion on day 2 is long, so you must leave between 8:00 and 9:00 in the morning. It is essential to book navigation and ice hiking tours months in advance, as places are very limited.
