Day 1

Base Torres Trekking

The day begins departing from Puerto Natales on a trip of approximately 2 hours to enter the park. Your goal is the most famous trekking in Patagonia: the path to the Mirador Base Torres. It will be approximately 22 kilometers in total, a highly demanding hike that will take you between 8 and 10 hours.

The trail will take you through changing landscapes, ascending through the Ascencio River Valley and passing through lenga forests. The final stretch, known as “la morrena”, is the most challenging, a steep climb between rocks that will test your resistance.

The reward awaits you at the viewpoint: a turquoise lagoon at the foot of the three granite towers. At the end of the exhausting walk, you will go to your accommodation inside the park for dinner and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

After a good breakfast in your park accommodation, you will embark on a scenic 80-kilometer drive to the western sector. The destination is Grey Lake, a milky body of water dotted with blue ice floes. After arriving at the hostel and walking along a black sand beach, you will board the catamaran.

The approximately three-hour navigation will take you through the lake, dodging icebergs of surprising shapes and sizes. As you get closer, the magnitude of the Grey Glacier, part of the Southern Ice Field, will be revealed before you, with its impressive ice walls of tens of meters high.

The boat will approach the three fronts of the glacier, allowing you to appreciate its textures, cracks and the intense blue tones of the ice. At the end of the navigation, you will begin the trip back to your accommodation or to Puerto Natales.

How to get there by air

You can fly to the Puerto Natales Aerodrome (PNT) or to the Punta Arenas Airport (PUQ), which has a higher frequency of flights. From Punta Arenas, it is 3 hours by bus or vehicle to Puerto Natales, the base city for exploring the park.

How to get there by land

From Puerto Natales, the trip to the park lasts between an hour and a half and two hours, depending on the sector. For this itinerary, it is essential to hire a tour or have a private vehicle, as there is no public transport to the starting points.

Climate and clothing
