Churches of Chiloé
Faith in the lands of Chiloé
The Churches of Chiloé constitute a unique architectural heritage in the world. This group of 16 temples, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, merges Jesuit evangelization with the craft of shipwrights, achieving monumental constructions entirely in native woods.
The Achao Church stands out in the circuit for being the oldest, and the neo-Gothic magnitude of the temple in Castro. Added to these is the Church of Tenaún, unmistakable for its three aligned towers and decorated facade, exemplifying the aesthetic singularity of the Chilota School that defines the island's identity.
