A wildlife corridor

Patagonia National Park is home to more than 300,000 hectares of steppe and mountains in the Aysén Region. This territory was a natural corridor of the Tehuelche culture, whose ancestral footprint remains alive in the cave paintings that protect its rock walls.

In the Jeinimeni sector, you will cross wetlands where you will see black-necked swans and flamingos, along with guanacos grazing on the steppe. The ascent to Cerro Las Banderas offers a panoramic view of the Cochrane and General Carrera lakes, completing a circuit of biodiversity and unique landscapes.

From Coyhaique, take the Carretera Austral (Route 7) and drive about 9 hours south to the Valle Chacabuco sector, located between Cochrane and Chile Chico. The length of the route and its conditions make the use of a high-traction vehicle (4×4) mandatory for this trip.

Must-Know Tips

We recommend making the trip with a 4×4 vehicle or through a tour operator, as the route has sections of gravel, narrow roads, and sharp curves. Respect the park rules and do not affect the local fauna. Be sure to bring warm and waterproof clothing, especially if you are traveling in winter.
