The Cachagua Island Natural Monument, popularly known as "Penguin Island", is an unmissable biodiversity sanctuary. Located in front of the seaside resort, a few hours from Santiago, this islet protects colonies of Humboldt penguins. Through authorized boats, you can observe these birds in their habitat, living with cormorants and pelicans in a unique natural spectacle.

How to get there
How to get there by air
The nearest airport is Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL). From there, you can rent a vehicle or take a bus to the coast. The total journey to Cachagua is 160 km (2 hours 30 minutes).
How to get there by land
If you are in Maitencillo, Zapallar, or Papudo, drive along Route F-20 (5 to 15 km) to Cachagua. You can use a taxi, transfer, or tour. Follow the signs to the authorized pier to take a barge and circle the monument.

Book flights, buses, and boat tours in advance, as they are in high demand. Wear comfortable clothing, sunscreen, and secure footwear. Respect the rules of the protected area: avoid leaving garbage, do not disturb the fauna, and follow the instructions of the staff to care for this unique ecosystem.
