How to get there
How to get there by air
The best option is to fly directly to Mocopulli Aerodrome in Castro (MHC) with flights from Santiago (2 hours). If you can’t find flights, the alternative is to fly to El Tepual Airport in Puerto Montt (PMC). From there, you must travel 100 km by land to Pargua, where you will take the ferry that crosses to Chiloé.
How to get there by land
From Santiago, you must drive along Route 5 South for 1,100 km (about 12 hours without stops). When you arrive in Pargua, take the ferry that crosses the Chacao Channel to enter the island. If you travel by bus, the total journey to Castro lasts approximately 14 hours and includes the ferry crossing.
Must-Know Tips
The climate in Chiloé is highly variable: bring waterproof clothing, a coat, and comfortable shoes. To explore the island at your leisure, it is advisable to rent a vehicle or hire a tour guide. Although the distances are not great, the rain and roads can make transfers slower.
