We want you to enjoy your trip through Chile without any setbacks; however, in case of any emergency, you must be prepared!
What to do if you are a victim of a crime?
- For any immediate emergency in a public place (robberies, assaults, accidents), remain calm and call 133 to contact Carabineros de Chile (Chilean National Police). This is the main rapid response number throughout the country. You can also go to the nearest police station: you can find it at carabineros.cl.
- After contacting the police, we recommend informing your country’s embassy or consulate. They can assist you, especially if you lost your passport or other travel documents. You can find their location at Red Consulados Extranjeros en Chile (Foreign Consulates Network in Chile).
- Other Important Numbers:
- 137 – Maritime Emergencies: If you have an accident at the beach, on rock formations, or at sea, call this number to contact the Maritime Authority. You can find out more at 137.cl.
- 134 – Investigative Police (PDI): This number is for more specific crimes such as fraud, immigration matters, or if you have information for a criminal investigation. Their official website is pdichile.cl.
What to do in case of emergencies or natural disasters?
- Chile is a country with high seismic and volcanic activity. The official authority for emergencies is the National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response (SENAPRED).
- Stay informed: Follow the @senapredchile account on X (Twitter) for real-time alerts and updates. Also, check Senapred’s recommendations in advance.
- Know the risk zones: On the website www.visorchilepreparado.cl, you can see risk maps and evacuation routes for tsunamis, wildfires, or volcanic eruptions.
- Follow instructions: Always pay attention to sirens, alerts on your cell phone (SAE), and the instructions of local authorities in case of an evacuation.
