Day 1
Nature and vineyards
We will begin our adventure in Santiago, from where we will travel 90 kilometers along Route 5 South to Rancagua. Then we will take the detour towards the Andes, following a gravel road for about 40 minutes until we reach the Río de los Cipreses National Reserve.
Once at the reserve, we will do the famous La Paloma trail. This 6-kilometer circuit, which takes between 2 to 3 hours at a leisurely pace, is of low difficulty and perfect for the whole family. During the walk you will enjoy spectacular views of the valley, picnic spots and the possibility of spotting condors.
After your visit, travel 70 kilometers to reach the Cachapoal Valley. There we recommend taking a tour of a local vineyard, where you can enjoy a tour, visit its cellars, participate in a wine tasting and get to know its beautiful surroundings. If you are going to drink, be sure to have a designated driver or have hired a tour.

What you should know
How to get there by air
Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago (SCL) is the main point of access to this itinerary. From the capital, you can take a transfer or taxi to the city to connect with a tour or rent a private vehicle to start the route south.
How to get there by land
To combine the reserve and a vineyard in a single day, the most convenient option is in a private vehicle or with a private tour from Santiago. This will give you the flexibility you need to move between the foothills and the central valley, which are a considerable distance apart.
Climate and clothing
Dress in layers. The reserve in the mountains can be cool, while the valley is hot. It is essential to wear trekking shoes or firm sports shoes, in addition to wearing a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
Must-Know Tips
Important: Chilean law prohibits driving after drinking alcohol. If you drink, don’t drive. Check the reserve’s hours before you go and book your lunch or picnic at the chosen vineyard in advance.
