Day 1

The amazing Hanging Glacier

Your adventure begins departing from Puyuhuapi, the closest town to the park. After a short and scenic trip of about 22 kilometers to the south, you will arrive at the Ventisquero sector of Queulat National Park. From here, you will begin a trek of medium difficulty that ascends gently through a lush forest, with the sound of water accompanying you at all times.

The trail culminates in the main viewpoint, from where you will get the best panoramic view of the Hanging Glacier. Observe how this mass of ancient ice appears between the mountains, generating impressive waterfalls that fall into the void. It is one of the most emblematic postcards of our beautiful country.

In the afternoon, you can take a shorter and easier walk along the path that borders the Laguna Témpanos. If conditions permit, you will have the option of taking a boat trip to get closer to the ice floes that float in its waters. At the end, return to your base in the nearby town of Puyuhuapi to rest.

On the second day, you will explore one of the most magical corners of the park: the Enchanted Forest Trail. Located 52 kilometers from Puyuhuapi, this trek of medium difficulty will immerse you in a unique ecosystem, where moss-covered trees and giant ferns create a fairytale atmosphere.

It is a trail of approximately 2 kilometers that ascends next to a river of crystalline waters, which descends directly from a glacier. You will be surrounded by the sound of water and the lushness of the Patagonian jungle, in an experience of total immersion in the most pristine nature.

The walk will reward you with a huge lagoon fed by the El Gnomo Glacier. After enjoying this landscape and replenishing your energy, it is time to start the return. The afternoon is ideal to explore the picturesque town of Puyuhuapi, with its German-influenced architecture and its beautiful waterfront.

What you should know

How to get there by air

From Santiago (SCL), you must fly to Balmaceda Aerodrome (BBA), located near Coyhaique, and from there travel to Puyuhuapi. Another option is to land at El Tepual Airport in Puerto Montt (PMC) and travel south.

How to get there by land

From Coyhaique, the park is located 165 km to the north along the Carretera Austral (Route 7), a journey of about 4 hours. The town of Puyuhuapi, located between the two main entrances to the park, is the ideal base to stay during this itinerary. We recommend having a 4×4 vehicle or hiring a tour.

Climate and clothing

The weather is very rainy and changeable. It is essential to dress in layers, always using a waterproof jacket and pants. Water-resistant trekking shoes are essential to enjoy the trails.

Must-Know Tips

Buy your park ticket at pasesparques.cl in advance, as places are limited. There is no cell phone signal in the park. Bring your own food and water, as there are no food services inside.
